Actor Jay Poff is playing the title character in Barn Theatre's production of "Jesus Christ Superstar," which runs through July 17.
"Jesus Christ Superstar," by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, tells the story of the crucifixion through a rock opera, and focuses on Judas Iscariot's choice of whether to betray Jesus to the Romans.
It's the first time in the role for Poff, a guest artist at the Barn, but he knows the songs partly through participating in his church's Easter celebration back home in Lancaster, Pa.
"They do a mass every year, a 'Jesus Christ Superstar' mass," Poff said. "They pull songs from the show and they cast the show. So basically they cast the mass. So I sang Jesus earlier this year."
